The humble cauliflower has long been a part of the Asian diet. In recent years however, it has gained global popularity, resulting in high end restaurants and chefs serving cauliflower based dishes.

Not only does this cruciferous vegetable pack a nutritious punch, it is also increasingly becoming part of the vegan offering as plant based diets begin to take root as society becomes more conscious about sustainability and the environment.

Here are 3 reasons why you may wish to incorporate cauliflower into your diet.

  1. Its Versatility

The cauliflower is a flexible and versatile ingredient that can be made into a myriad of dishes. Cauliflower is a mild-tasting vegetable that can take on so many different flavours. As such, it can serve as the base of the meal given that it can be made into rice (as a replacement to grains), mash, pizza crust and even gnocchi. It can also serve as a dish (sauteed with other ingredients) or an accompaniment such as salads. It can also be preserved like Kim Chee.

2. It is nutritious

Cauliflower is an excellent source of fibre. Fibre helps to keep your digestive system moving properly. It also helps to reduce inflammation in the body and is said to reduce the risk of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart conditions. 

An added benefit is its ability to keep you filled up (just like protein), which in turn reduces overeating.

3. It helps with hydration

Cauliflower overwhelmingly made up of water. With 92% water, eating it helps with keeping one hydrated. Given that we are all well aware with the health benefits of keeping hydrated,

And you know how good water is for you and your health! By using cauliflower as an ingredient in grain-based recipes, you’re adding a lot of nutritional value and helping your body better digest the meal because of the higher water content.
